Derrick
I am back, right now I am replacing the 1979 L20B engine and the 4-speed manual transmission with a Z2400 (with 5 speed automatic) from a 1986 720D truck. The 720D Z24 engine had a blown head, which has been repaired. Have the engine/transmission ready to put into the '79 620D. Now, I am looking for a replacement for the Z2400 carb. Need something like a side draft unit that will enable everything to fit under the bonnet. Any suggestions? Thanks! 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You don't have to put a D behind the truck ID. All owners manuals say D for some reason even the cars. There were no 5 speed automatics. The later '83 and up 720 only had the 3 speed automatic with a locking torque converter The '86.5 and up D21 Hardbody with a Z24i engine has a 4 speed automatic. Is the air filter hitting the underside of the hood? I had a Z24 in my 620 but it had a 4" body lift, gave it no thought. 1 Quote Link to comment
Derrick
I can only tell you what I found regarding the auto transmission that was in the 720 that I bought for parts. Regarding the air filter - yes, it hits the bonnet when I attempt to close the hood. I have thought about putting a small scoop in the hood, but would like to keep the flat bonnet. That leads me to looking for another carb that I can put on the engine. thoughts? 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Put the L20B back in it and get side drafts for that. Get three pedals and a 5 speed also. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
How much? You could slot the two engine bracket to block bolt holes and let the engine sit lower 1/2" 1 Quote Link to comment
Derrick
thanks - that is what I was thinking. Just have not done that on any of the datsun/nissans that I have owned. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Check pan clearance above that cross brace. It can be removed, but only to remove some metal for more clearance. It provides lateral support for the torsion bar mounts and has to stay. 1 Quote Link to comment
