Sliding window install?

Hello,

 

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Matt and I just recently got an 84 720 4x4. My dad had an 85 when I was growing up and I loved riding around in that truck. I was gonna fix it up and make it mine in high school but he ended up selling it. A sad day indeed.

 

Well, I finally got my own about a week ago. Only 114,000 miles on it, but I have been going through and doing what needs done to make it completely road worthy.

 

To cut to the chase, one of the pieces from the rear sliding window needed replaced and I have the part from an 85 720 I had bought previously that is now a parts truck at best (long story...), anyways, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the glass in there. Does anyone have any tips or information they can pass my way? It would be a big help.

 I'm guessing that one of the outside glass pieces got broke. I replaced one of those in a rear sllder by taking out the slider window trim pieces, than the slider window. Remove the stationary upright metal border piece, than the outer window will slide inward and out through the higher height center section.

 These pieces will be in there very tight. You might have to lube, wiggle, heat with warm soapy water. You need to soften the rubber seals to get the window to come out and go in.

  Be warned that factory rear windows on king cabs are a different size than regular cabs. Aftermarket sliders are anyone's guess.

 My replacement window I made out of plexiglass cuz it's a toyota.

Are your 84 & 85 the same cab? If so you could probably just swap the whole glass & frame. Be careful the head liner is tucked into the rubber seal in the back glass, check your rubber seal for dry rot, once you pull out the frame there may be no going back without a new fresh seal. Either way I believe you will have to remove the back glass.
