Looks like a woodruff key that goes on the end of the crank to keep the pulley/sprocket/oil drive spindle in place. Don't know why it would be in the transmission. Such thing isn't used in the transmission that I'm aware of. If that's the only large chunk of metal that came out, then I wouldn't worry about it. Fill it up with gear oil that's yellow metal safe, and be on your way.
