15 Year Old Weber Carbs

Recommended Posts

Hi Ratsuners!

I recently acquired 2 used 40 DCOE carbs. They are about 15 years old and have been sitting on a shelf. I also got rebuild kits & adapters. They are also about 15 years old. I've started rebuilding 1 to clean it up. I have a few questions.

1 - How do you know if the rebuild kits are still good? Do they have a shelf life? The rubber still feels soft.

2 - How do you know if any of the brass parts needs to be replaced?

Thanks!

Ben

First, see if the brass parts are the correct parts for your engine. If they aren't physically damaged, they are probably fine.

As for gaskets and rubber, If they aren't brittle.. they should be fine.

^^^^^^^^^^ this is correct !

Brass parts i.e. emulsion tubes, jets, floats, throttle plates etc. generally (and rarely) dont wear out.

As Draker correctly said, soft rubber (almost always) = good.
