datzenmike
Detonation or pre ignition. This is the uncontrolled firing of a cylinder before the spark plug does it. Accompanied with severe pressure and temp spikes this is like hitting the upward moving piston with a 16 pound sledgehammer. Caused by too much ignition timing, too low an octane fuel for the compression, cylinder running lean, too high a heat range plug, glowing hot carbon deposits.... FOD or foreign object damage. Piece of spark plug or something down the carburetor got into the cylinder and got tossed around. Head would show even more damage. 1 Quote Link to comment
logan1600
Very helpful I'm thinking it must be the timing because I messed around with it when I didn't know what I was doing a while back and was running the hell out of it with the timing all jacked up. But why only one piston I Wonder. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Weakest link in the chain I guess. Maybe runs the hottest at the back. Quote Link to comment
