denveratsun
Hey...I have been thinking about this for some time and thought that maybe someone out in Ratsun land might be able to give a for sure answer. Would my 521 have a threaded nut behind the flat section in the corner of the cab for shoulder belts? Was there one there from the factory or would I need to do a little fab/welding? I was thinking about running a drill into it and seeing what happens... I did a search here and it seems that some folks have shoulder belts and some have lap belts. Let me know what you think guys (and gals?)! Quote Link to comment
datsunfish
They came with shoulder belts that were removeable from the lap section. Is yours filled in or something? There should be an opening for said threaded nut yes. The non retractable belts can be swapped out for a later 620 retractable set. Quote Link to comment
sam o nela
Its definitely possible...when I was in high school, the auto shop teach had an old Honda Accord out back and he let me scavenge the 3-point belts from the front seats for free.... I had them in my 521 the following weekend... Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
there was no threaded nut. someone did a great project write up on some 3 point shoulder harnesses for a 521 on nwde.org but i cant find the thread. Quote Link to comment

Yeah I looked to see if I could set it up. I also saw no place for the third point to mount to. :( Quote Link to comment
datsunfish
I guess I am confused here. My 521 has a factory shoulder belt setup. What else are you looking for? Mine at least, has the nut in the upper corners for the shoulder mount and one on each side of the seat along the back wall. Quote Link to comment

Maybe i'm looking in the wrong spot? Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
only the late 71 and 72 521's had the shoulder harness. for others you have to fab up some stuff to install a shoulder harness. Quote Link to comment
pklotz70
Here is the thread from NWDE. http://www.nwde.org/extras/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4304&KW=seat+belt I have a '70 521 but Mike said we will have to do something else for mine. Basically because we are a little vertically challenged. If we drilled out where ADrummond did his, the shoulder strap would hit us too close to our ears. Not a comfortable way to be driving around. denveratsun
Awesome info guys. yeah, I got no camera today to put up pics. I was talkin to zuum510 and he was telling me all about the "late" 71 trucks having nuts behind the little flat gusset plate (area within the top 5 inches of the cab corner)... then he basicly accused my little truck of having NO NUTS! I guess those grew in late 71 and 72. He said his doesn't even have the flat gusset in the cab corner. "Yeah"..I said..."well at least my truck has a flat place in the corner of the cab". I sure told him. Thanks for the insight ya'll. I got lap belts comin' for the old girl. Thanks zuum! Quote Link to comment
tdaaj
i have a 72 cab with shoulder belts i'd be willing to part with. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
pklotz70 you are awesome. i looked through all 42 pages of truck postings and couldn't find that thread. thanks for finding it i think it's one of the coolest threads ever. i seen a 6/71 521 a couple weeks ago with factory shoulder harnesses. maybe they didn't come out as late in 71 as we think. denveratsun
Hey Gatherer, my 521 has a 2/71 production date, so I would say you are right about that. Maybe after September eh? Thanks guys for the help and the thread about the shoulder mounts (really good stuff!) I am going to go with the ole' lap belts for now and when (if:confused:) time allows in the future, I may consider the swap to shoulders. This has been really great info for whenever I do.
