Tigerbomb
Hey guys. I am currently going to have my L-18 rebuilt. As car as Carburetors go, i see a few options as far as SU Carbs, Mikuni Carbs and OEC Carbs. I've never gotten a straight answer around my parts or nobody knows what they are, can you guys break down the difference for me please? Thanks a bunch for the help guys. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
SUs are one-barrel carbs. Typically two are fitted Mikuni-Solex PHH, Weber DCOE and Dellorto DHLA are basically the same - your typical racing carbs, two-barrels and usually two fitted. OER are a newer version of them. They all use the same manifolds. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
...and all feed air into the head from the side. The stock Hitachi carbs that came on the L18 feeds down into the manifold then the flow turns 90 and enters the head from the side. A 'side draft' carb gains a slight edge over a 'down draft' by making it easier for the air to flow in a straighter line into the head. Side draft carbs can take up a lot of space though. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tigerbomb
So what would be the benifits of having 40mm, 45mm or 47mm OER DCOE? Airspeed and Torque correct? I'm looking to see which i should end up buying as well as a decent manifold. I wanna have this build done correctly. Thank you Mike and ggzilla for the info so far. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
40s are good for up to 180 HP. 45s are needed beyond that 1 Quote Link to comment
