Why do you need a diff with 3.9 ratio?

Larger ratios will accelerate faster (some complain it will rev up too fast, but if speed is what you want, 4.11 or 4.625 is the go).

Smaller ratios will return better fuel economy at highway speeds. 3.70 or 3.454. But will accelerate slower.

If you are reading an account of one person's build, be aware there are always better ways to do it.
