Jason Wright
Wasup guys. On my 720 when I got it has this clunking noise when backing up. What I thought was a u-joint turned to be something worse. It's coming from my transmission. It only does it in reverse. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
More info... Clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk increasing with vehicle speed? Or just a clunk when starting or if you step harder on the gas while reversing? 1 Quote Link to comment
Jason Wright
Your first example. A repeated clunk and it gets faster as I gain speed in reverse. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably a chipped tooth on the reverse counter, reverse idler or the reverse gear itself. Can happen from hitting bumps while full throttle reverseing on pavement or wheel hop doing the same thing when stuck. Not much you can do about it. It is reverse and not used much so I'd just leave it and avoid hard driving in reverse. Quote Link to comment
