ericsb210
We decided that we were a Datsun short of true happiness, sooooo. We went down to Clatskanie, OR and thanks to Bryan returned home with a brand new TO ME F10 Hatchback. It runs great and shifted smooth, but man those brakes are in bad shape..and the wiring is not far behind..I would have been much smarter to have flat bedded this home...but hey after two days we arrived at home. There is minimal rust and only one true dent. All of the original parts appear to be here. It is a kick to drive and we are both excited about restoring it along with the wifes F10 Sport Wagon. I really like the looks of the yellow F10 GX-T shown in the racing picks of this same forum. I have never used fender flares before but I am willing to give it a go...the picks of the GX-T appear to have "box style" like some found on some of the 510 racing picks. First things first though, I have all of the brake components, except for the rear drums, on their way. A new braking system will be done shortly. I am pretty sure a donor wiring harness is not going to happen so I am hoping I can break open the harness that is in it and see if it can be restored to its original state. The driver seat is busted beyond repair so I will be heading over to the local pick n pull and see what donor seats I can shoe horn in the little micro Datsun. I am looking for some JDM style bumpers, the 620 front bumper looks very similar for the front I haven't looked at the back bumper yet. I will also be redesigning the grill. I have a couple of picks on photobucket http://s1155.photobucket.com/user/drwho192/library/?sort=3&page=1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Another white wagon! It took you two days to drive back? Clatskanie is just across the river. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
It wouldn't start when we arrived and we were to tired to mess with it. The Guest House Inn by the Kelso Mall is a great place to wait until tomorrow! In the morning we bought a new battery and installed all of the tune up parts I could find at the local auto parts stores. After the quick tune up the little F10 fired right up. Left Kelso at 1:00 and finally made it home to Olympia at 5:30. Took back roads from Chehalis on up due to the brakes being as scary as hell. After getting lost twice we finally made it home. Thank you for posting the pic:-) Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Nice find  I've sorta fallen in love with the F10, esp the sport wagons. It's sad that those were probably the first ones left in the woods down here. At least you can still find a few 1200s and 210/B210s that were "gonna be v8 swaps" Stupid rednecks... ericsb210
Updates; Found the following. Original shift knob - purchased and installed. Perfect center console purchased and sitting on back seat. JDM Nissan fog lamps, off of a 76 Blue Bird 2000 GTX, trying to purchase. Front JDM bumper, and over ride bar (same as the one on the Yellow GX-T) purchased and am waiting for shipment. JDM fenders with fender mirror mount holes, considering purchasing. GX-T fender mirrors, wow they are spendy. I am leaning towards the "DX" fender mirrors. More updates to follow. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Another Washington F10. I inherited a 78 hatchback not to long ago my great uncle bought brand new in 78 when he died my uncle got it and now I have it. I am slowly fixing it mine pretty much has no brakes either that will be the next thing I do to it. 1 Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Parts are getting scarce, I have parts coming from every corner of the USA and even a few from Japan and Australia. Locally NAPA has been the biggest help for the brake parts. NAPA just called to let me know the rest of my brake parts are in! Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
That's good to know I will have to check out napa for brakes parts because that's gonna be my next project the brakes are so bad I really shouldn't even be driving it. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
I started with the brake hoses they were in sorry shape. I kept my factory original calipers greased all sliding points of contact. I am going to hone out the rear cylinders (factory original, also) and put in a new rebuild kit. New hardware kits all the way around. If the master cylinder shows problems I will rebuild the original one also. I have never had long term success with remand calipers, pistons or master cylinders. LenRobertson
It is worth searching eBay for F10 parts from time to time. Sometimes there are new old stock parts on there that probably aren't available through regular parts suppliers. Some sellers seem to be dreaming on their prices, but many things are quite reasonable. And there are usually several F10 Factory Service Manuals which I consider a must have considering how cheap they are and how much information they contain. Len Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
That be good advice. I picked up FSM's for both F10's for less then $20. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Yeah I should see if i can pick one up because I am pretty sure it was Len and his manual pictures that he posted that helped me out with the clutch problem I was having. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Was just looking on eBay found two F10 hubcaps for $335 I am sure glad I still have all 4 of mine that's crazy. On the plus side there is a lot of F10 brakes that might come in handy since mine are shot to hell. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
F10 brakes are available from any auto parts store. Less than $5 new at Rockauto. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Yeah It's gonna be more than pads and shoes I am pretty sure I am gonna have to replace everything I know the master chlinder is screwed the rear wheel cylinder leak one the front calipers is seized up right now the only thing I have is the emergency brake and only the right rear works it's really bad. I pretty much had planned on replacing everything. Tired of screwing with it. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yep, they have just about everything. Between your local auto parts store an Nissan you'll find every mechanical part. Exterior/interior parts are hard to find. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
For the most part I got lucky with this car yeah it's old but it's been garaged it's whole life until last year. It's been in the family since it was bought new in 78. No dents nothing just one little rust patch on the rear hatch. Once I get the brakes done it will be a good little car. For as old as it is there really much wrong with it. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
That is way cool. I am happy to hear that you ended up with it and appreciate it. I am terrible about posting pics (namely because of the operating system I use on my computer "Ubuntu") butttttt, have you posted any pics of yours, I would like to see it. How many miles on it? How is the interior? Just curious. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
I have found recently that many of the local auto parts (O'rielly & Auto Zone) stores list the part but when it comes to getting it that is a different story. Napa as I said did actually come through for me but many of the parts I needed where special order from around the USA, no big deal but they make you pay for shipping and returns are more difficult. I have not tried Nissan. I have seen several parts available on Ebay but just by looking at the picture or part number they show for the part the application is obviously incorrect. So be careful with Ebay plus returns are a real problem. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I will see if I can get some pictures posted I remember when I was having the clutch problems I had problems posting pictures. In fact if you do a search for F10 clutch problems that was the name of the thread there are a couple pictures there but I will see about getting some interior photos too and as far as mikes go it has 110,000 miles Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Found it. Like the color, looks better then my sky blue. You mentioned body work on that posting, r you doing a full restore? I hope to paint mine gun metal gray with gloss black accents. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Since it's been in the family since it was purchased I would like to short of money for doing that now but as far as mechanical stuff goes once the brakes are fixed that should be it. Then I will start on the the rest of it but it might take a while. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Awesome, I have gathered a few parts for my F10 but need a few more. When I have all of the parts and the weather turns I will start a build thread, probably around May. If you run across a nice dash pad (if you don't need it yourself) let me know. I am going to try and recontstuct mine but I don't have to much faith in my ability. Quote Link to comment
Scq4247
Honestly I can't think of anything for the interior of the car that I need for as old as the car is it is in amazing shape it owned by two to people before me that took care plus it was always garaged until last year if I did the brakes and painted it I would be like brand new pretty much. Scq4247
One thing that would like to do is see about getting some more power out of it and maybe you know or someone could tell me since it is a front wheel drive car am I stuck with the engine that is in it now or is there anything else that will fit in it.
