gryffinwings
I'm looking into moving the parts for the tachometer from a tach gauge cluster into my non-tach gauge cluster. Reason for this: 1. Want to keep mileage reading. 2. The speedo needle is missing from the tach gauge cluster. 3. the tach gauge cluster body isn't in the greatest condition. 4. I got the gauge cluster for cheap for parts. Any help and pictures would be great. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Loosen your gauge cluster and lift forward enough to reach in and unplug your speedo cable. You might be able to push some cable slack in from the engine side. Unplug the gauge harness and lift out. Dismantling is fairly obvious and just swap it in. To get it to work you will almost for sure have to plug in the missing tach resistor. The plug for this can be located on the engine harness between the drivers headlights and the coils. The empty plug will be wrapped in electrical tape and look like a lump. All '80 vehicles with the tach option will have one if you are in wrecking yards, or if you know where the truck is you got the gauges out of. Other vehicles may have it in a different location. The resistor looks like this... If you have an electronics parts store nearby you can also solder any 1 watt 2.2K ohm resister in line here and this will work also. 1 Quote Link to comment
gryffinwings
Well I got it installed, and apparently my truck already has the resistor installed, very convenient. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It can happen. Quote Link to comment
