Bamadawg
Mike... which carb would you use on a 720 with mild performance tweaks... the 38 DGES or 32/36 DGEV? From reading, the 38 gives a bit more throttle response but gives up some MPG over the 32/36. Nate Quote Link to comment
Bamadawg
Also... How fair a price is $325 shipped to my door for a factory new casting Z24 head for '84-'86 with a 3 year warranty and no core charge? I figured I would pay $60ish for a pulled used head + blasting, parts and assembly. I would prob still get a port kit and port a new head a bit. Would still haveta track down a intake and cover - but wouldnt have to worry about anything else. Nate Quote Link to comment

Nate The 720 guys rave about the Weber carb, mostly because the stock Z24carb, although a fine carb when running good, is designed for low emissions/economy and I think has a small primary. All use the 32/36 with good results. Get one with idle cut solenoid if poss. Also... Nate Again, if you have the money and don't want to spend the time , and if a complete re build with new seats/valves/seals I guess it's an ok price. If you have the money AND the time you could scrounge one and do some of the work yourself, specially porting and gasket matching. I bought a $50 rotary grinder Dremel thing and practiced on an L head. I had a assortment of hand files and rasps and sand paper and it was fun and interesting. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/00770013.jpg[/img]"] I cut injector notches for a fuel injection idea I have... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/00770024.jpg[/img]"] More or less, the finished product. Both ports enlarged and the short radius modified to remove much of the sharp bend, casting flash and machining burrs removed below the valve seats, general polishing of ports and chamber and port matching to manifolds. 16-20 hrs spent I would guess, and the satisfaction of doing it yourself. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/IMG_0119.jpg[/img]"] Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
That will be a 3.889 and a 5 spd. An early '80-'83 4X4 had 4.375 rear gears. I had an '82 2wd long wheel base truck and it was 4.11. Either of these will add some snap. Quote Link to comment
