datzenmike
Loosen the nut and turn the screw in or out lock the nut again. Intake and exhaust at both set at 0.012". Just slip a feeler gauge between cam lobe and the adjuster. Set motor to TDC #1 and set ex. and in. on #1 int. on #2 ex. on #3 Turn motor ONE revolution and set ex. on #2 int. on #3 int. and ex. on #4..... done. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Yes. If you do it as I described you don't have to waste time bumping the starter to get each valve closed and you can get it done before the motor cools off. Quote Link to comment
DotSoon
nice. had the head machined and a valve job done.. they said they set the valves but i dont trust anybody :) wanted to check/adjust them before giving it my final blessing and driving it everyday again. thank you. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
In theory cold setting should account for proper clearance when hot. Quote Link to comment
DotSoon
In theory cold setting should account for proper clearance when hot. indeed. so if they are supposed to be .012 when hot what would they be cold? could i check them cold to verify or is it best to check while hot? this depth of wrenching is still a bit new to me so im learning as i go Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Hot is what they run at so hot is the correct setting. Quote Link to comment

DotSoon
verdict on the valves.... 6 were too tight and 2 were too loose. thanks machine shop for "setting them" for me.... anyway. she runs great, just like she did before i let her overheat and warp her head... now its on to the next thing/s on the list :) Quote Link to comment
