ka24e timing chain question

Recommended Posts

Quick question, how tight is a ka24e chain supposed to be without the tensioner pin pulled? my original one that I had reused during my rebuild eventually started rattling but even before when it was quiet it had slack on the tensioner side. I put the new one on, timed as it should be, and its tight even without the tensioner pin pulled out. I can move it prying with a screwdriver about an 8th to 1/4 inch at the top of the guide that pivots. doesnt seem right to me but I have nothing to base it off so if anyone could chime in thatd be awesome.

thanks

To be clear the tension side is the left or driver's side. The crank pulls down on the chain and the valve train resists. There won't be any 'slack' on the tension side unless the crank is backed up or the cam moved forward.

I meant the tensioner side, the curved pivoting guide. the straight guide side is tight but the tensioner passenger side is as tight as the straight guide side without the tensioner pin even pulled. like I said I can take a screw driver and pry the tensioner side guide about 1 8th and thats with the piston in the tensioner still pinned back.

I just wasnt sure because the old chain had a good bit of slack on the passenger tensioning side.

Im gonna tq the head down then roll it over several times to make sure the timing stays put. probably count the links  and compare to the old chain, wish it did that before I put it on.....
