datzenmike
180sx? So this is an S12 then with CA18DET? Here, there was a transmission change in mid '86 although this may not have been true in Japan. With a CA18DETs output you probably have a 71C transmission. Can you look on the aluminum engine tag probably on the cowl below the wiper under the hood. Either way... Yes the '79-'83 ZX's 71B front case will bolt to the 71C body but some machine work is needed. This area on the zx case around the wider counter bearing has to be milled away for clearance. Like this.. with a 3" radius and 0.125" deep The 180sx's first/second shift rod is also likely 16mm diameter but the zx case hole for it is only 14mm so it will need to be drilled out. See the three finger sized holes on the right? The 1st/2nd shift rod hole is the top one. The 180sx counter bearing is likely 62mm and won't fit the 56mm hole in the zx case so easy enough to use a gear puller and remove the 62mm one and put a new 56mm bearing on. I think it only wise to have a new one. This is a high wear area an just why the bearing was increased in size to 62mm. Well that should do it. . Quote Link to comment
