metalmonkey47
I'm gonna need to rebuild it, and prefer to get all my bearings/synchros as a kit. A couple places sell them, but what's actually good? I don't want to have an issue with this and have to do it AGAIN down the road. 1 Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Autozone lists an ATC at $184 with synchro's but I read about someone having an issue with most of the bearings being incorrect. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/ATC-Pro-King-Manual-Transmission-Rebuild-Kit/1979-Nissan-Datsun-280ZX/_/N-imgvtZ6o2tw?itemIdentifier=898295_451016_5207_148651 NAPA doesn't even list the '79ZX as FS5W71B equipped... wtf? TasoZ24
I just ordered a kit this morning as well through the local Baxter's for 172. My question is, how hard is it to rebuild this thing, or should I take it to local tranny shop for 200 and have it done? Im fine around an engine but first tranny on a bench in front of me. Draker
You'll need a press, some long jaw puller, and an array of snap ring pliers. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. The key with any trans auto or manual, is organization. Lots of small parts.. and parts that look the same but are different. Also both are filthy.. auto more so. There will be oil everywhere no matter what. Quote Link to comment
TasoZ24
Yeah I cleaned tail housing, pretty gross. Cleaning and putting together. Dropping it off at shop with kit monday, less likely for them to mess it up. 1 Quote Link to comment
TasoZ24
Yeah im just goin to take it in. Cant gain the confidence and would spend money on the tools anyways, might as well get it guaranteed with warranty. Quote Link to comment
