What is this?

So I had the engine out of my goon the other day, and while putting it back in I noticed this hardline & fitting... What is it for? 1972 WPL510 wagon.

It goes to the tank, It was connected to the evap stuff on my car... Just leave it open and dont worry.

It does not need a filter? Is it some sort of return line or just a vent ??

 

If it where a vent would it cause fuel smell in car ?

Fuel smell in car... Pull of passenger side cargo side panel. Check for leaking.

I only get fuel smell when I hammer it.

 

But I should check that out anyway.  Thanks.

Mine looks just like that. And I did it. Never had a problem. Pretty sure I have heard to leave it open too.

That line from the tank goes to the driver's side front strut tower.........man I wish I could remember wth that alloy vacuum valve is called! LOL

That tends to go away when you don't have the stock carb.

So should it be hooked up to the air cleaner or something ?   Meh I'll look at Haynes manual to see.
