Ian purchasing a Z22 race motor. What mods are needed to put it in my 74 620 using my 4 speed. The guy also has s set of headers but said he didn't knowvif they would fit because they were for as 510 and clearance around steering might be different?

Clearance around 620 torsion bars probably. The 620 steering box is at the front.

You can't use your 4 speed as it is. It is aligned for an L series motor which is leaning over to the right about 12 degrees from vertical. The Z22 motor leans about 10 degrees to the left of vertical so your 4 speed would have to rotate about 20 degrees to the left placing the shifter in your hip. You can get a Z series transmission or the front case half from a Z series transmission and swap it onto your transmission to make it fit.

Use the Z22 engine brackets to position the block in the 620 frame rubber isolator mounts.

The top rad hose is on the right on the Z22 so some creative hose re-routing is in order to get it over to the left side for the L series rad.

I would run the Z22 exhaust manifold and graft the down pipe to the 620 system.

You will need a longer Z22 or Z24 720 throttle cable to reach the carb.

Don't forget the dual coils.

L16/18 and L20B carbs will fit but will need to be jetted for your engine size. L20B intakes after '77 have larger runners. If you're asking because you want more 'power' then get a 32/36 weber. Get a direct replacement from Redline about $300, but this includes the adapter, studs bolts, gaskets air filter and everything needed to get it going. This is a brand new in the box ready to run carburetor, no looking for bits and pieces, no running a sock over it because you can't fins an air filter, no having to deal with missing internal parts because bubba's six toe cousin rebuilt it.
