Agent-Gambit
about how much horsepower can an l20 give you?? is it a big difference with the l16? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, it's a huge difference: it 25% larger engine! Built the same way, the difference is huge. But it depends on how it's built. There are perfomance and economy versions that vary a lot. Most L20B are not performance. Quote Link to comment

metalmonkey47
Over an L16? Yeah, no doubt. Not to mention, L20b being 25% larger has more power potential then an L16. In the 70s, BRE ran an L16 with severe mods that made nearly 200hp. Imagine what you could do with an L20b Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Unless you've lost all your senses. What's wrong with the original L16 engine? It makes almost as much power at 7000 RPM as the L20B will at 5000 RPM. 1 Quote Link to comment
ddrum
I used to have an (overhauled) L16 in my 620 and it was slow as shit, i could simply not keep up with traffic. I just swapped an overhauled L20b in a month ago, and man i do not regret a single thing. Torque is way better and i can overtake cars on the highway in 5th gear! :) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, L20B has more grunt. But on the other hand, shift down 2 gears and let the L16 sing, and it will keep up with traffic. But a lot of guys don't like to shift so much. And a 5-speed means even more shifting. One reason for the L20B. Even Datsun decided a 620 was better with L20B. Quote Link to comment

What's wrong with letting an L20B rev to 7K? ;) Personally, I like revs, but IMO the L20B is a more fun motor to run on the street. OR an L18. Can't argue with short stroke goodness. ggzilla
Nothing wrong with it, just most guys don't rev their engines up that high. But it won't hurt the L16 and wow! Now it has more HP! Can't argue with L16 short stroke goodness. Quote Link to comment
