garths311
So I'm doing the z thermostat housing mod on my r16 and um wondering what size hardware I will need to mount the waterneck Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Never heard of it, so why not explain and post a few pictures of what you're trying to do? Is this something that Roadster owners do? Quote Link to comment
garths311
Well on a 1600 roadster it has thermostat housing the commonly gets frozen on the block and is very difficult to remove . And my case is cracked so I'm going to put a z water neck and an inline filler so I don't have to change my radiator . I plan on cutting off the old part and I need to figure out the stud length . I was hoping someone else here had done this so I could take the guess work out Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Get studs that are 1" longer than the housing. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Do you mean the thermostat cover, or water outlet??? The 240/260/280z used two bolt but the 280zx used three bolt and so did the '81 Maxima gas engine. The # is 11060-P6500. The '79 S10, A10, 620 and '81 Maxima diesel also used a three bolt but different number.... maybe a different angle on the outlet? #11060-Y7010 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Hmmm .... my picture of the R16 thermostat water outlet shows three bolt. Well if yours is two bolt, then almost any L series 4 or 6 cylinder cover will do. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
But how long are the bolts??? Quote Link to comment

garths311
maybe not that long Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I would use bolts 10mm longer than the housing. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
it does but you don't have to use all three Not following how two bolts across from each other will line up with a three bolt holes in a triangle. Are you drilling and tapping new holes? What about the two 3 bolt water outlets I mentioned? ....so I'm going to put a z water neck and an inline filler so I don't have to change my radiator In line filter??? Quote Link to comment
garths311
An inline filler neck for the radiator hose since the 1600 doesn't have one on the radiator itself . And I guess the bolt holes line up . I am going to try to extract the old studs out ( fingers crossed) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Filer, sorry. Are you sure it's two bolt? Seems odd. Here's a thermostat housing on an old L head. You can see the bolt pattern for 3 bolts. Quote Link to comment
garths311
On the r16 the bolt holes are not an equalateral triangle I suppose Quote Link to comment
garths311
the bolt on the right closest to you doesn't go all the way thru Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Makes sense now. 1 Quote Link to comment
garths311
I'm glad I clear that up for you Quote Link to comment
