sedan20 Posted April 22, 2012 Report Share Posted April 22, 2012 alright.. stationed in Deleware at Dover AFB, i came across a guy there driving an outlandish 240sx, and figured id ask him about it... come to find out, id be buying that car and driving it across the country when the time came go back home. the plan is to ultimately use the drivetrain for a swap into my datsun 510 as well as anything else that i can rob, and still leave the remainder sellable. this is what it looked like when i found it on the east coast.RUST INCLUDED - LOL - HELLA EAST COASTi worked with the previous owner to swap the welded diff out for a more reliable one legger as well as doing a transmission swap as part of the conditions of the purchase... it all had to be done before the trip... and we did all of the work on base.i drove it home, but i dont seem to have access to those pictures to share momentarily... ill throw them in a comment. lolLAS VEGAS ON THE WAY^^^right off the strip. lol ^^^after <3000 miles of abusive driving i noticed an exhaust leak... haha. yeah, i had to fix that asap.first thing to do with a freshly repaired turbo car was to start the modification process... paint and parts.i started with the paint^^^ had a friend lend a hand when my back was killing me with all the taping and painting. hahaTHE END RESULTAND I ALSO DID THE WHEELS----then i needed some help... i needed a welder, so a friend of mine helped... weld the differential of course...BUUUUUUT.... WELDING THE DIFF IN A HIGH POWER CAR BREAKS STUFF... SO MAKESHIFT MOTORMOUNT BOLTS BREAK... sedan20 Posted April 22, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2012 true... the car is super rusted. that picture is of one of the WORST spots... i drove the hell out of it, and we beat it up all the way across the states... we drove from north east coast delaware to new york to sightsee first, then to see family in ohio, then south and across, by the cadillac ranch in texas, and to vegas for the pre halloween to stay with a friend.. then up through socal to our home in modesto, and out to the base in the bay... all in 6 days.. left rubber in every state. between flats and bald tires, we went through six tires IN 3000 MILES. hahahaha. i bought a valentine one radar detector before the trip. NOT A SINGLE TICKET! and i averaged 90 MPH according to the garmin gps. times of our lives man times of our lives. zero mechanical issues as well! couldnt have asked for a better trip. this car is awesome, the engine will be fantastic in the datsun. sedan20 Posted April 25, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 25, 2012 so quick question... i was driving it today, and it seems to be giving me signs of a failing alternator... i need to check it, but first i was curious, does a sr20de alternator substitute for the det one? if so, thats an autozone run for a lifetime warrantee....
