so i ve been running my big 1.6 all around town now and been noticing a few things.

oil dripping form the air cleaner and down around the carb. on too the exhaust manifold. looks like its due too the the crankcase vent on the valve cover pushing air out instead of in?(the line thats connected to the air filter)

The PCV seems to be connected properly, even if home made. The PCV valve can only absorb a limited amount of vapors. It works on manifold vacuum and when the motor is floored the vacuum is low. When low, any extra blow-by past the rings is directed out the valve cover vent to the carb to be sucked in and burned. I would say your motor has plenty of blow-by, in fact too much.

The easy fix would be to connect the hose from the valve cover into a small container to collect the oil. I would lengthen the hose and run down the far side of the motor by the starter. There is going to be a lot of fumes and this will let most of them be drawn under the passenger side of the car so you won't smell them as much. Avoid heavy throttle and high revs. yeah, right...
