hey i have a 71 goon that was an automatic now a 4 speed. i just dropped an L18 in and have to deal with points for now till i can switch to ei later. just want to get it running. my problem is that the goon was wired for ei previousley (complete hack job..duck tape is not a good substitute for connectors and electrical tape) and have all the parts to get it running with points. im trying to get it wired up and i have the haynez for the wiring diagram but its like reading chinese for the first time i hate wiring. what i really need to know is what color wires go were on the distributor, coil, and ballast resistor. any help would be great. pictures of your wires would be better thanks.

blk white (key ON)will go to the Ballast resistor

otherside of ballast resisitor will go to the + side coil. This is usually the blk/green wire

Blk/Blu wire is the 12volt(key in START) this will go to the +side coil.

find wire that goes to the - side of coil or just make a wire from the main set of points to the - side of coil. That should be it

You must use a POINT coil close to 1.6 ohms and the stock 1.6 ohm ballast resisitor.

Make sure the dizzy has a good condensor also.

if you got a volt meter you can ck for voltages.

blk/wht with key ON

blk/Blu with key in START (remove the starter wire so car dont turn over)

call Pumpkin210 on ratsun here and he can get it going for you for a fee

heres a drwng print this MOFO!!!!

You only need one.

the one with the bigger condensor on the side will be the main points.

the other is the 2nd setwith a smaller condensor(I dont use them)

Oh by the way it sounds like you have a L16 dual point dizzy and hopefully you have the matching timming mount to go with it.

pictures of your wires would be better thanks.

yeah why dont you do that and I will tell you where it goes
