This is why you take a die grinder to the inside of your engine block

Here is a little random tidbit of WHY you should deburr as much of the interior of the crankcase as possible...

Look at this little piece of metal casting flash that is ready to break off and tear your engine to pieces. This wasn't even the biggest piece either.

 

ALSO, everywhere that you see a really rough surface, that is filled with bits of SAND. Several times I was blasted in the face with a good bit of SAND as I was grinding every square inch of the inside surface of my block. (most of it near the bottom of the bores)

I thought you were going to show us a finger with 20 stitches in it. haha. I always wash the inside of the block with dawn and a scotchbrite pad before essembly, so I deburr just so I dont gash myself. I've ran into sand in them too. Funny how it stays there for 300k, till you rev it to 7k and it starts breaking loose.
