JAS
What can be done about the hood lifting up (not unlatching) at high speed, above 55? i have tried to adjust the tension on the spring, but that does not work, as it also drives the latch pin further up so it wont latch. Air pushing up under the hood is lifting it almost an inch. Maybe getting a stronger spring??? Quote Link to comment
RedBanner
Not the spring, it pushes the hood up already. The latch might flex but the spring is there so when you pull the hood release, it raises above the lock , and onto the safty latch. id do alittle latch maintenence and loik for stuck, wore out pieces Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Does the hood rest on the rubber bumpers on both sides near the front? If the rubbers are missing or worn down, that may be your problem. They keep the hood from twisting in the wind. The latch keeps only the center down. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
I have to push down hard on mine till I hear the click. Sometimes it tricks me and looks closed then pops up going down the road. Maybe try pushing down on the hood while moving and seeing that the hand lever actually goes all the way over to the closed/lock position? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
To close a Datsun hood properly, you generally need to do the same as for a Ford hood: 1. Lower it until it is about a 18" above the radiator 2. Let it drop If it still doesn't latch properly without pushing down on it, then adjust the latch. See the Datsun factory service manual for the procedure. Quote Link to comment
JAS
Oh it latches perfectly, and i do have the hood bumpers.... Found that the area where the latch bolts is cracked allowing it to flex and lift. Have to get it welded up and painted again. Quote Link to comment

RedBanner
easy fix. And since its mostly out of sight it wont be so bad. Could paint the whole section and never even notice. Quote Link to comment
RedBanner
Im cutting a coupe up this weekend, do you want the core support piece? Or any other sheet metal? Quote Link to comment
JAS
I am getting a tig/mig welder for xmas, Will be welding it up and re-painting the cracks. I am afraid if it gets worse, it will rip out and hood over the winshield thing... Had a 521 pick up do that at 80 mph once on the highway. Bad deal. Quote Link to comment
RedBanner
Remember to drill out the end of the crack before you weld it, or itkwill just start cracking again. Quote Link to comment
