Radiator hoses

Is there a difference in temperature between the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose? The aftermarket water temp gauge installed by the PO is on the lower radiator hose.  I have read alot of the sensors are on the upper hose nearest the thermostat.  Just wondering...........thanx.

if i remember correctly coolant enters the engine via the lower hose and cycles through the engine gaining heat until it exits into the top of the rad. I assume you would want the hottest temp displayed and not the coldest. But im no genius so im sure a few other member will chime in sooner or later

It should be placed on the upper outlet before the thermostat to read the most accurate engine temp, AFAIK. That's where the hot water is flowing out of the engine!

I mounted an autometer sender there, you can get some adapters for the stock mounting threads just make sure to get the proper british pipe thread... I split my thermostat housing by using a wrong adapter.

Well the water temp reads 220 and steady off of the water temp gauge with city driving no more than 65 mph. The dash temp gauge is still hooked up and reads 50/50 straight up between C and H during the same driving. I have some large hills and canyons where I live and then it may go up a little more before going back to the 50/50. Any suggestions?
