Auto Choke question

Can you run switched 12v to the carb choke? Does it need a balast resistor? After a few minutes when the choke is full open, does the voltage change? Relay close (or open) and remove the 12v? What should be the current drain?

Is it Voltage / resistance to figure the current drain?

I'm having problems with my Electric choke relay and currently have my original carb on my L20b so i can pump gas into it for starting. The choke is set open. The original carb has really good accelerator pump so a few pumps on the gass and it starts right up. I have a bigger carb that doesn't pump large amounts (compared to the stock carb) of gas so it really needs the choke ckt to work. I would like to put it back on the truck (78 620) and run ignition battery to it until i get my voltage regulator/choke relay straightened out.

Is the resistance in the choke enough to have 12v to it at all time while running?
