5 speed swap

Recommended Posts

Whats up guys! So I have a 79 620 auto trans and i'm wanting to swap it to a 5 speed i have a 5 speed trans from a nissan I think it was an 83 with a z engine I am sure that its a Z engine I've heard that the trans will work if you swap the bell housing but i have never heard if you can use the flywheel and clutch or If you have to use the L series parts and also is the shifter location and driveshaft the same. Thanks!

You will need:

A standard clutch and brake peddle with all the bolts, clips, springs and switches plus a clutch master pushrod.

A clutch master cylinder. Get a new one they are cheap and saves a leaky one that needs rebuilding.

A clutch slave cylinder. Get a new one they are cheap and saves a leaky one that needs rebuilding.

A hard line and a flex line to join the last two together.

A flywheel, preferably 225mm

A clutch disc and pressure plate assy, preferably with the release bearing and collar.

A clutch arm and boot. May be on the tranny you get.

Rather than swapping the front case to make it fit your '79 just get a 5 speed from a 620, 290z/zx or a Maxima to begin with. The 720 tranny may be too short as well.
