imtb
I am trying to find out how the coolant lines for the 280ZX turbo hooked up. The coolant lines for the turbo only. If anyone has any pics it would really help out. I am not having much luck and dont have the 280zx manual to consult. thanks, mike Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I don't think the turbo was water cooled but it did have oil lines to and from it. You don't mean the automatic coolant lines or the engine oil cooler? Quote Link to comment
imtb
Turbo coolant lines. I think the 85-89 had water cooled turbo on them and wanting to know where they hooked up to off the engnine and returned. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
The 280ZX turbo was not made in 1985-89. Production stopped in 1983 Quote Link to comment
dimedriver
Sure you don't have a 300zx? They are usually called Z31's for 1st gen 300zx. Check out this page. Im pretty sure they were oil only turbo's Toyota(CT26) was the only one running water and oil back then. http://www.redz31.net/ If you have upgraded to a turbo with water cooled bearings I would run the line from the thermostat housing below the thermostat(High pressure side). To the water pump inlet or heater core outlet near the water pump(low pressure side). Oh and if your trying to tune this thing for your bigger Turbo don't get a piggy back the stock ECU can do it all. check out the archives of the hybridka http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://hybridka.com I have backups of their daughter board layout and some of the programs they wrote. redz31 also has some good stuff on ECU tuning. -Avery Quote Link to comment
Bleach
The 280ZX had oil cooled turbo. The Z31 300ZX had water and oil cooled. I guess you could be using a Z31 turbo on a 280ZX but at this point I'm unsure if the owner even knows. If you are indeed working with a straight six (and not a V6) then I have heard of using the small water line out of the bottom of the thermostat housing to feet coolant to the turbo. This was originally hooked up to a water port on top of the throttle body. That port is not needed and once the water line is removed, you may unscrew the four bolts and take the unit off of the top of the throttle. That will give you a little more room to work with.
