James
Working on the dime today with my free time. Replacing the water pump, and I think, "Maybe the thermostat needs to get replaced with the hoses while I pull this water pump assembly..." water pump comes off fairly easy... (In the rain...) and the radiator needs a new cap... Bolts are screaming... "Replace me, replace me..." So I go and pick up a set of SS allen bolts... Mmmmm.... tasty.... Then as I walk out with all my goodies, I stop and look at the project... Maybe I can just unbolt the thermostat upper assembly, and take a look/see at the thermostat... Big mistake. Seems the bolt has been sitting and waiting to ambush the fool that replaces the thermostat... Two turns with the bolt, and the tension and resistance drops to zero... Rust is everywhere... Seems the housing cracked, and half the threads have been held in place with the corrosion from the OEM bolt... FRAKK...!!! So I have a top cover that looks decent, but the base section that bolts to the head is TOAST... This is the part with two horizontal bolts, a thermostat mounting point, a square gasket, and a water outlet pipe... and the two offending vertical bolt holes for the second assembly that fits on the top... I know is it interchangeable, and a piece of the 240 or 280 Z will fit... Let me know what you think, and let me pay for the shipping.... I have PayPal, and I am not afraid to use it... reply to: rusty510@wavecable.(removethispart)com I know, ironic, right...? Link to comment
brodster
I don't know if you want to go this route, but I just did. There is an excellent seller on ebay selling NOS parts: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4712.m2000054&item=310270986248&viewitem= http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4712.m2000054&item=310270871009&viewitem= It is probably pricier than you want, but you won't have to worry about rust. I was just disassembling my 510 the other night and the same bolt cracked as you. I just want to make sure everything is fresh for the rebuild. Link to comment
James
Yeah, that is pretty pricy... Well, I will wait another few days, then bite the bullet if I have to I guess... Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
James theres a little more to it than that. There were 2 kinds on the 510/521 series. 1 has a water bypass(has U shaped rubber hose to water line) and the other one dont. I have a part # and PM me so I rememeber which one you need. PS use the stainless bolts and antiseize compound(also acts as a rust inhibitor) I do all the water pump bolts . matter of fact alot of bolts http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=11061-21000 11061-P0300 w/bypass 11061-21000 no hole superceds to another # also need a T housing gasket to head. dont have # for that Link to comment
brodster
11061-P0300 is the one I bought. I messaged the guy on Ebay. Same exact one on my L16 that is the only reason I chose that part number. Better to listen to Hainz though. Link to comment
