jefe de jefes
You have a points type dizzy installed right now? If you upgrade to a Ei dizzy your engine will probably run smoother and you'll have a lil more power. Plus you won't have to mess with adjusting points. So to answer your question. Yes you can change it if you want. Should you? If your not happy with the points type, sure. It's one of the first mods I do to any of my engines. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
since you have a 79 run the matchbox distributor. The dizzy will not know if its a L16/18/20 You truck is wired for the matchbox anyways. Use the 79 as a whole assmebly with the pedastal with matching timming plate. if you use a Point dizzy the 79 doesn not have the HOTSTART wire an you need to add a ballast resisitor and a stock point coil.otherwise your points will burn up using the matchbox coil as its a lower resisitance and current will be more than double causing arching on the points. best to line motor up to TDC install the dizzy and where it locks down will be #1 plug wire then go 1 3 4 2 counter clockwise Quote Link to comment
