Rock Creek Lake Trip in the Datsun! 7-20-10

Recommended Posts

Well i am not much of a story teller, though i have to make mention of this trip. we left out at 5am on Tuesday 7-20-10 for a camping trip. it was about 300 miles one way. we went to Rock Creek Lake here in California. it is between Mammoth and Yosemite. its a great place to go. i had three passengers, the trunk packed full and the rear seat/floorboard was full of stuff as well. kinda like a Beverly Hillbillies style traveling. i was really pleased with my 610's performance and economy. the round trip was 590 miles. with all weight i was carrying i got 26.1 MPG. when we got to about 7000 ft. the idle was really crappy, when we got to 10,000 ft. it would not idle. i adjusted the carbs to somewhat compensate for the lack of oxygen it got better though it idled like it was under water. after we had all our fun hiking and fishing which both were fantastic. 7-24-10 we got late Saturday morning start home. the trip across the desert was a a bit hot. the wife fallowing me in her 010' Scion XB with the A/C on of coarse, said the out side temp was 109 degrees at it highest point. 290 miles in the heat and not one bit of overheating worries! got to love the 810 radiator! it was Great to see the reaction of some of the people stopping to look at my car way up there in the Sierra Nevada's. we braved the elements and rolled the dice on this trip and it was a success. what a trip!
