Hello Every one,

Here is a question for all you Datsun lovers. Can I fit the third member from a H165b to a 520 Diff. I want to have the truck run a little better. The original ratio from the tuck now is 4. 875:1 and I would like to change it to 3.7:1. If any one have any ideas please let me know.

Thanks

Juan

No.

The H means solid axle and the 165 is the ring gear diameter in mm. The only thing that will fit an H190 is another H-190. And even then some have different side gear splines for the axles. But at least these can be swapped.

All 521s with the L16 motor used an H-190 and are 4.375 ratio.

All 620 trucks are 4.375 with the exception of the '74 L18 automatics which were 4.625, and the '79 standards which were 4.11.

The 720s come in a bewildering array of ratios from 3.364, 3.70, 3.88, 4.11, 4.375 and 4.625. Look on the engine tag on the pass side inner fender under the hood hinge. Near the bottom right is the axle code. HF38 would be H-3.889 an HF41 would be H-4.11 and so on.

If you still have the stock J motor I wouldn't go below 4.11 unless never carrying a load.
