RadioRedline
Hey would the 5speed in a 1989 hardbody go into a 1974 620? (1.8) Radio Quote Link to comment
RadioRedline
and if not what about a 5speed from a 1984 720 Radio Quote Link to comment
izzo
The 720, sort of. You need to change the bell housing to that of a L series. That will keep the angle correct. otherwise the shifter will be way off. Quote Link to comment
RadioRedline
sorry its an 86 720...still ok? Radio Quote Link to comment
izzo
yeah, still a napz motor and trans the L compared to a a napz trans i think is 7 degrees off, so the shifter will sit funky. switch the bell housing over to an L and itll be fine. Keep in mind, that when you pull the bell housing off, there may be another shifting rod and you will have to drill it out if the hole in the bell housing is not there, or if it is slightly bigger. sorry i dont know the correct term for it but you will see what i mean when you pull the bell housing off. datzenmike
The '89 and the '86 will both have the 12 degree 'tilt' to the passenger side if installed on an L motor. The '89 tranny will be longer for sure and need the driveshaft shortened. The '86 may fit if it is 31.5" long. I have a 26.3" NAPS Z tranny so measure it. The F4W71B front case will fit the '86 tranny if you swap your counter bearing onto the '86. You may have to drill the top shift rod hole out to 16mm. You will have to drill and tap the reverse light switch and move it back about 1" and fill the old hole. OR get the front case from a 5spd where you don't have to move the switch... OR run without reverse lights. Quote Link to comment
