Roadracer Al
Here's the update on the progress. I had a minor setback on the brakes, the rear left wheel cylinder seal leaked a lot after bleeding, fortunately, I'd installed it improperly, so reinstalling it correctly solved the problem. Good news, the parking brake works! Gas tank took a lot of fiddling around grinding and re-welding the seams - it didn't pass the soapy-water and compressed air test. In fact, it leaked like a sieve. But it's all better now. Like I said, I really miss my TIG. I got it reinstalled, and not only does it hold gas, the gas gauge works. Installed the new Gates fuel filler hose (p/n 24711) at the same time. I installed the center bearing today - wasn't nearly the nasty job I thought it was going to be. And, yes, the actual bearing was in pretty good shape, but the rubber 'donut' had rotted out. That resolved the ugly noises on deceleration. While under the truck, I noticed that the DPO didn't install *any* support anywhere on the crappy-ass exhaust they installed. Makes a hella racket when the motor is revved, and the pipe hits the frame. Also noticed that the previous exhaust had worn a big groove in the frame rail! The big news is I drove it for the first time since getting it home! It's a little cold-blooded, there's no heat riser, but eventually starts running good. Pings like a beeyatch, tho, I'll have to time the spark. Quote Link to comment
Roadracer Al
Finally got some pix of the brakes - these shoes are WORN OUT. Also, Yello620 requested a picture of the trans cross-brace. Here it is: Is there anything wrong with just adding a 3/4" spacer under the existing trans bracket? That ought to really make the cab quieter -- the trans is actually touching the floor, making it vibrate like a drum. Quote Link to comment
84TAVeRT
i am actually planning to swap this same trans into my brother's 73... i am just planning to use 3/4" spacers and longer bolts... later, Chris Quote Link to comment
