  1. well i thought the catch can keeps all impurities from going back into the engine. but i do think that if they were effective the manufacturers would be installing them in every car. I just thought I start the subject to see what the community has to say. I am not trying to make my 620 look or sound like a race car by any means and i hate to add un necessary stuff to it either but i would like to extend the life of it and keep it in good shape. thanks for the input guys

Hey All. i was just contemplating the idea of using an oil catch can on my 620. is it a good idea? i just want to avoid any impurities going into the combustion chambers. has anyone done it in a Datsun. I've seen it done on the hotrods but have not seen it done in the smaller four cylinder engine cars especially on a Datsun. any ideas on mounting locations would be great to see
  3. not sure what's best but I am a big fan of the A87 especially if it is a closed chamber. the A87 has the squared exhaust ports and no baffle inserts. the w58 has the inserts and round exhaust ports.
  4. Ok Cool. I wish you the best of luck. doing your own build is quite fun but can also be challenging. if you are Mechanically inclined and you are getting into engine rebuilding the L20B is a good engine to start with as the datsun L series are easy to work on and pretty straight forward. watch videos on youtube as there are many and very detail and easy to follow i personally have not made any videos as i am not good at doing them but there are really good channels to follow Cars, Bikes, and Coffee on youtube has lots of info on the L28 and sutch. the datsun Z engines are built in the same way as an L16,L18 and the L20B to name a few
  5. 1mm equals 0.039 inch so yes this is correct for a 0.40 over bore for the 86mm pistons
  6. are you doing just a stock build? you did mention that you want a budget build so I am assuming you want to keep it simple right? you already have the pistons and rings that you'll be using. if so I would just have the shop check the crank shaft checked and if it checks ok have them polish it. have the shop swap out the connecting rods on the new pistons and have them bore and hone the cylinders or just do that your self. installing everything is pretty easy as long as you follow the manual and recommendations. I'M sure you know what you're doing so should be a fun project if everything checks out ok you should need the basic components like main and rod bearings, pistons and rings main seals and freeze plugs and a complete gasket set. once you have the short block done than check your cylinder head and have everything checked as well. replace components as needed and now for the fun part...engine installation and breakin. good luck on your build and hope it all goes well for you

  9. Ouch!!! I've come across that kind of stuff Mike. it is not good when someone's crappy work becomes someone else's nightmare. that right there is why i came up with this post. and see if I can change my habits and quit using it. especially where you don't really need it. and well I am tired of having to pry the parts off of the engine
  10. I've always use FelPro with out issues but I guess the real reason for it is that I've always use RTV. Never Dry and even then they eventually start to leak LOL
  11. yes it is a PITA having to wash the driveway. but it is always just a matter of time. I guess this is a real debate. I've never install gaskets dry and this is why I just thought it would be interesting to hear what others have to say on the Matter. Thanks for your input
  12. Hey All. quick question. does the oil pan and timing chain cover have to use RTV silicon for the gasket? I've watched videos where some use the RTV and others No RTV. the gasket just goes in by it self with out any sealant. shine some light on the subject. I've always used the RTV sealant but when replacing... it is a pain to remove

  14. Hi All. what is a good replacement for the wiring harness body clips or ties. I've been looking like crazy but have not found anything that will work. I even came across a 75 620 at the junk yard but because they are so old they just broke when taking them off.

    Hi everyone. I am in desperate need of a A87 closed chamber head. I took mine to have some valve guides replaced and the shop screwed up and broke it. I am trying to find what ever is out there either a good working head or a good rebuildable one. what do you have
