  1. The name "rice wagon" came from my first impression given the racing seat, giant column mounted tach, the big exhaust, and other "ricer" like items. The car was super solid and very straight. I don't remember what else was going on at the time but I knew from the start that I wanted this to be my first VG car.

I found a VG30 w/ 5spd tranny. Got an install kit from Dave at www.vg30.com and then started tearing down the motor, only to find it had silicone sealant in some of the cooling ports, scratched cylinder walls, and damaged piston tops.... *sigh*

  2. Spoiler alert - the complete photo album for this project can be seen here:

Oh man, I just looked at the dates of the photos - I purchased this wagon in July 2005. Nearly 7 years ago! That's embarassing, but if you have a car that's been in hiding for years, and are losing interest and motivation, perhaps this will help you out...

I answered an add for a running 510 wagon near Ft Lewis with an L20 and 280zx brakes if I remember right. Brenda and I drove down, took it on a quick test drive (to the nearest Shucks to fill the leaking clutch master cylinder) and bought it on the spot.

We bled the clutch in the PO's apartment parking lot and headed north. Here are some photos from when I first brought it home.

  3. I've designed thousands of parts that others have manufactured as part of my job. I've used a mill before to cut slots, drill holes, trim heights, and other modifications to existing parts before. But Friday I made my first scratch built Datsun parts. Four little stand-offs for some air cleaner assemblies. I bored and tapped 1/2" aluminum stock and added a pair of 11mm wrench flats, then soda blasted them. I realize it's pretty simple stuff for a few of you here but I'm happy with them.

And here they are in the car.

  4. Complete rear end from a 510 wagon with disk brake brackets.

This was from an abandond KA project from down in California.

Previous owner thinks the brackets were for willwood calipers. I can take measurements for you if you like.

I usually sell plain jane wagon rears for $150 so what a deal?!

Rear end spins freely but I've never driven it.

  5. I have two sets of 13" steel wheels w/ tires. 4x114.3 datsun friendly bolt pattern on both.

The first set is a nice clean set of steelies with almost new tires (still have thenubs on them)

Three are 165R13, one is 155R13.

    $100 - come get 'em

The second set are also 13" steel wheels that kind of look like four spoke libras in if you squint! They have toyota centercaps. Tires have good tread but are pretty old and one doesn't hold air for long. But no one will be lookin' at your tires cause they'll be mesmerised by the chrome beauty rings!

    $100 - come get 'em

    6 speed manual transmission

Honda OBD2 wiring harness conversion with fully functional S2000 digital instrument cluster and immobilizer system

    1982 Nissan 280ZX brakes, 4 wheel disc

    Rack and pinion steering conversion

    Custom built front swaybar

Limited slip differential with 4.11 rear end gears

Shaved rear door handles, padded dash, am fm radio and cd player

Front bucket seats from a Toyota MR-2, rear bench seat is original Datsun

    HID headlights

    New windshield

    Drive line loop

    New drag slicks

3 inch exhaust with side cutout in front of right rear tire, and full exhaust running to the back with a stock Honda muffler. Very quiet and stealth when the cutout is capped, and easily uncorked for the race track.

  7. I'm going to drive it for a few months to make sure there are no more mechanical/electrical issues. Rack and Pinion steering would be nice. Hopefully I can pin my brother (BACKWOODS DAVE) down and get it painted before next summer. We'll see.

Solid wagon! Still thinking of paint before Canby?

Looking forward to seeing your swap in person.
