84 transmission

Hello I am looking for a place to get a shift for a 4cyl 2wd 84 ext cab. Truck would not go into reverse or fith gear when I bought it. Opened up the trans and found the shift fork was screwed. Any help would be great. On a side note it you take the trans out of a 78 or older zcar and changer the bell housing it will bolt in place of the stock truck trans. Thank you Jason

Actually any '77-'79 620 or '80 720 long tail or '77-'83 280z/zx 5spd (not the T-5 turbo) will fit the '84 720 front case 'bell'. However you will need to remove the '84 counter shaft bearing and press it onto the new tranny. Also the older tranny has a smaller diameter 1st/2nd shift rod and it will be a loose fit in the front case. A small thin sleeve somewhat like a pilot bushing can be made to slip over the end before installing.

Damaged 5th/Rev fork is common as the weaker rev. fork was not improved when the 5th gear was added.

The 06'79 to 06'81 200sx 5spd has the exact same ratios as the '84 2wd truck and is a drop in with no changes.

The 07'81 to 09'83 200sx will also drop in to the '84 but it has the ratios of the '84 4X4 with a much lower 1st gear.

The 11'84 to 02'86 200sx (CA20E) is an exact match ratio wise but the bell will need changing but won't need the bearing swap and shim to the shift rod.

Any chance you could post a picture of the damaged shift fork? Thanks
