whisper3H
Should i cut out just what is rusted to place a patch panel, or should I cut the whole panel out? Quote Link to comment
Guest DatsuNoob
Depends on how much you love your vehicle. If you plan on keeping it around for a long time, go the distance. If not, stuff some bondo hair in there and forget about it. If it were me, I'd look for a donor, take some measures, and start cutting. Quote Link to comment
whisper3H
I got some sheet metal from the side of a ford econoline van that we cut out at the shop i work at, the metal is all new with the OEM ford white paint ...so i was going to use that as my patch panel metal, i just dont know if i should cut out just the rusted area or that whole panel Quote Link to comment
Guest DatsuNoob
I would look for another 81 in a JY,take a cordless sawzall, and hack off the chunk you need. After you have the replacement section, you can take measurements from the same areas on both pieces, so you're able to see where it'll make an "exact" fit. Just trim it to the body line and tack and test fit. Any other way, and you'll be using a shit-ton of filler. If you plan on doing more of this kinda stuff, you should look into buying some clecos and some cleco pliers. Raddest shit ever. They sell them in the Summit catalog. Quote Link to comment
Skib
Id have to say deff cut that out. I used rust killer and wire brushed all the rust way then fiber glassed over it but mine was about the size of a 50cent piece. Quote Link to comment
