S30Jay
Hi all. So here's my question, I just completed a full rebuild on my L26, I run SU's, and since it had been sitting with fuel in for a decade or so I decided to pick up a new mechanical fuel pump for it. As you are probably aware I couldn't source a genuine Nikki one anywhere. So I grabbed an aftermarket one instead. There's a good chance the old one would still work, but I've found they usually don't for long if they were sitting for a long time with fuel in. I know it isn't OEM level, and I don't expect it to be. But I seem to recall reading an indirect comment in a thread somewhere awhile back about aftermarket L series pumps being problematic? Are they trouble because of short lifespan, or catastrophic failure? In other words, should I avoid running it in my fresh rebuild. Jay Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
I've never had an issue with one.. other than the quality isn't as nice(obviously). 1 Quote Link to comment
S30Jay
Thank you Micro. Sounds like I should just run with it. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
You can run it, but carry a spare. The plunger type ones (stamped steel with 1 or 2 towers) fail with no warning, just work one minute, then don't the next. Quote Link to comment
S30Jay
Ahh, thanks. I've seen rebuild kits for the Nikki pump. I'll probably try picking one up and rebuild that and stash it as my spare. Quote Link to comment
