FJ20_S12
So im in the middle of doing the 240sx FS5W71C trans swap on my 84 max by swapping a 280zx front bellhousing., i've read everything and i understand jist of it, but i was wondering is the boss on the backside of the housing that has to be milled, is it a thrust surface? my machinist (by hand) ground down the boss in the diameter needed to avoid the countershaft gear, but didnt bother worrying about exact clearance. i so i want to be 100% sure if it had to be machined perfect or not... thanks for any input Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No, it only has to be ground down for clearance. The counter and main bearings accept what little thrust there is The bolt on cover plate has a select shim to pre load the counter bearing. Quote Link to comment
