datzenmike Posted May 6, 2014 Report Share Posted May 6, 2014 The '88 D21 used a Z24i and a VG30 V6 engine. As long as it's from a 4 cylinder it will bolt to your Z24. However it is a different design transmission and while the driveshaft spline is the same, the over all transmission length is likely slightly shorter. Also look on the engine tag, right inner fender under the hood hinge. '88 and '89 D21s did have a 4 speed option that could be mistaken for a 5 speed. The engine tag should say FS5W71C and NOT F4W71C 1 Quote Link to comment
