mcordero8
I would like to paint my firewall a flat black in the near future. I would like to know if anyone knows any good stuff to purchase from a spray can. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
inside or outside? If outside, I'd not paint it unless you are doing it right. It will start peeling off, and then look far worse than whatever is there already. But because you will do it anyway... http://www.tcpglobal.com/AutoBodyDepot/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemNo=POR+RUCS&gclid=COOp38r1nL0CFe5aMgod5x4Asw Quote Link to comment

tr8er
That link I sent sticks quite well. Cures quite hard. If you are going to the trouble of pulling the engine, and brakes and steering, you may want to rent a compressor and gun. Then just strip whats on there, scuff up the metal, epoxy prime it, and spray whatever finish is your fancy. Whatever you do, spend some money on a de-greasing, de-waxing agent. S.E.M. or similar. Your firewall is one of the filthiest spots typically. Also, consider that matte paint is far more difficult to clean. If you get grease on it, it looks gloss. But a hot pressure sprayer can solve that. Have fun, I hope you get more responses, because I am certainly no expert. Quote Link to comment
orangie
I used a chassis paint from Eastwood Restorations. It's a pretty tough paint in a spray can (1 can should do it) You can also order it by the pint if you want to put it in a gun a get a finer mist. You can also use it without a primer and still sticks well. Quote Link to comment
mcordero8
Do you have any pictures of how yours turned out and where do you get that Eastwood Restorations paint from? Quote Link to comment
orangie
You can only tell so much from pictures, but I'm happy with the results. There is an epoxy primer down underneath, but not because I thought I needed it. The original plan was to match the engine bay paint to the body, but I'm getting ready to move so I starting to cut corners here and there. I've used this stuff before on control arms and frames and it holds pretty well. These have a lot of restoration stuff: http://www.eastwood.com/?srccode=ga200220&gclid=ckcdro2n-7ucfetfmgodcqgasw Quote Link to comment
mcordero8
That looks awesome. I will purchase some of that paint. Thanks Quote Link to comment
orangie
Just one more thing. If you don't use a primer, make sure it is clean and then hit it with 320 grit or finer and take the sheen off the original paint. Quote Link to comment
mcordero8
It is a 73 Datsun 620 It has no more sheen. Just kidding thanks for all your help. I will sand it all down and I will post some pics when I am done. Quote Link to comment
