mini_trucker8852 Posted November 21, 2012 Report Share Posted November 21, 2012 hey guys new to the club but really need some advice.I have a 70 datsun pl521 that i love so much wont to daily it so bad ,has a l20b swap. but having some trouble. somtimes my switch will work fine starting an cuting off my truck ,an somtimes it wont .when it dosnt i haft to run a jumper wire from hott side of coil to battery to get me home . somone has told me about a ceramic reducer under the distributor.but i do not have one . sometimes it has no problem then somtimes it throws its fits but when my switch quits working going down the road my truck quits also but still have lights just nothing on the switch . intill i do my jumper wire please help . ggzilla Posted November 21, 2012 Report Share Posted November 21, 2012 It sounds like the real problem is with the Ignition Switch -- maybe the wires are loose on the back. If you jiggle the key it may start. 1970 Datsun 521 truck came stock with a ceramic Ballast Resistor. Now a previous owner may have swapped in a different distributor, one which doesn't use a Ballast Resistor. What is the part number on your distributor? It is stamped into the side of the distributor and starts with 22100. Quote Link to comment
