what weight of cloth? (they spec it in oz/sq ft, typical surf glass cloth is 10oz)

using and under skin support, or just 2 ribs underneath the hinges, or just hood(trunk) pins.

care about oil canning? (horrible in a hood cause it is in line of sight, but no one sees a trunk buffeting except the guy you ust passed!)

"oil canning" is when you sit on someone's trunk/fender, and it pops in, then when you get up it pops back out. really thin parts will do this, and folks can be really turned off by it.

best way to anwer the "how many layers" question is to make a test panel.

4-6" wide, buttting the left side of all strips:

1. put down 24" strips, 2 layers

2. put down 18" strips, 2 layers (remember, all edges are in same place on the left)

3. put down 12" strips, 2 layers

4. put down 6" strips, 2 layers

you have just made a "step ply panel", and when cured you can bend and twist each section and decide which is the right amount of stiffness

a few hints:

1. remember, the fabric is not absorbing the resin, you are "stipling" / working the air out from below thru an open mesh, getting the resin to surround / encapsulate the fiber strands.

2. wear the right protective equipment (glasses when mixing, gloves always)

3. fab then trim to net, you never fab to net.
