Has anybody replaced the stock J13 alternator? Looking for more amperage, converts it to a 1-wire setup, meaning one wire comes from the battery to alternator instead of the big electronic box on the fender and all those wires, they come on all kinds of GM vehicles.. Any help would be helpful. Thanks!

I don't know which is the J13 persay, but I'm doing a one wire set up in my 610 Wagon. I used a Saturn alternator, and I had my shop set it up with a self exciting internal regultor and It's going to be a one wire set up, just put a battery cable to the alternator and go. I'm suppose to pick up my alternator tomorrow...

One-wire is a euphemism of course. The GM alternator has two wires. One for the dash lamp, one for the battery. Datsun also used a separate ground wire for better reliability, but you can leave that out if you wish.

You can also replace the 25A J13 alternator with a bolt-on 1-wire Datsun alternator, 50A or 60A.

These require modifying the bracket and getting a different size fan belt.

But you can fit a Datsun 35A one-wire, from the 1979-1980 620/720 and it's a direct bolt-in, only needs the wiring simplified. One wire for the dash lamp. Uses the stock brackets and stock fan belt.
