what is this

Taking the front cover off this little thing-a-ma-jig fell out of somewhere... When i pulled the cover off it fell off and landed on the lip of the oil pan...:confused:

 

Pics are kinda large. Took with a cell phone and left them large to see the part

Valve lash pad. I've had one come off before- the rocker fell off and the lash pad (which is held on solely by the rocker) was loose amongst the valves. Boy did the engine backfire (dead cylinder) when that happened.

 

Mine was caused by incorrect valve lash, but broken parts can also cause that to happen. In any case it results in a dead cylinder.

Thanks guys. guess it was a good thing i pulled the front cover off. if i hadnt i would have never realy knew

finaly got to up to the shop to check things out after i got the front end torn apart... there are 2 of the valve lash pads off.. Found both of them... Another is turned a little bit and the corner of the part that sticks up on the sides is chipped off.. I think after i put them all back in and adjust them i should be good to go in that area.

geez the valves were so out of adjustment it wasnt even funny.... Got them all adjusted now on sat its time to put everything back together and hopefully she runs

Let us know if you gained a little power since you adjusted the valves and out the lash caps back in. I'd bet that you did.

I wouldnt kno if it gained anything. got it not running guy i got it from didnt time it rite after a headgasket repair. i goin through everything to double check it all
