510six
For the past couple of weeks the flu has really had me down and out and plus it`s been raining here in central California so working on the car has not been a priority. A couple of months ago I had a really bad day at the dyno, it was a combination of things but, what it ended up being was corrosion in the methanol side of the fuel system plugging the secondary fuel injectors and causing the car to run lean past 17psi. This was solved after the entire methanol fuel system was taken apart and corrosion was found in the injector screens. The injectors were sent to Witchunter Performance(who BTW I coundn`t recommend more for cleaning and flow matching) http://img01.picoodle.com/img/img01/4/2/25/f_injectorclem_025803a.jpg The injector holders were miltary spec hard anodized and all other fittings showing any corrosion were replaced with nickle plated fittings or nickle plated brass. The fuel filter was replaced with a hard anodized unit with a stainless screen. After this the car ran like a striped ass ape again @ 14psi. http://img36.picoodle.com/img/img36/4/2/25/f_DYNOT672m_a93bc89.jpg http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/4/2/25/f_newih1m_c9ced9e.jpg The transmission had been difficult to shift into 3rd and I was hoping that it was the Hurst shifter and not the transmission as T56 six speed parts are very expensive. After dissasembling the Hurst shift the whole unit was literally in pieces . I searched Ebay and found a NOS shifter for about 100 bucks less than a new unit, now it`s a quick clutch adjustment and the car should shift fine again. http://img32.picoodle.com/img/img32/4/2/25/f_t56bs1m_1335949.jpg The 3 liter uses very low tension oil rings which normally don`t cause problem, however after boost the car tends to smoke . The solution to this is to add a electric smog pump from a Camero LT1 used as a vacuum pump. This will come on using the same output from the AEM EMS used to run the methanol fuel pump this should take care of the oil control problem after boost. http://img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/4/2/25/f_vac20p20in1m_3cab1fb.jpg[/iurl] The ultimate plan is to have 500 rear wheel horsepower with crappy California 91 octain pump gas with methanol added as 35% of the total fuel through two large 1600cc injectors in the intake track. The methanol also serves as the intercooler as well as adding octain. A small 100 rwh shot of N20 will be used to spool the car at the track with 100oct unleaded.( so 600 rwh) A friend who is the local AEM Guru is doing the "rough" tune and it will be fine tuned on a dyno in the future. E85 is now avalable at a station less than five miles from the house and as it is 105 octain right out of the pump a conversion will be made after I pay some bills off and remodel the master bath at home. The Ethanol/gasoline mix with the methanol should allow for some serious boost and horsepower #`s to be run on the street it will require at least 1000 cc injectors on the main fuel rain and -8 line and another fuel pump, plastic fuel cell, stainless steeel fuel lines ect... The ultimate plan is to better this timeslip http://img27.picoodle.com/img/img27/4/2/25/f_10sectimeslm_3ffdebe.jpg Quote Link to comment
nismopu
doesnt it take a higher specific amount of fuel to run e85? Quote Link to comment
510six
Yes,roughly 30% more fuel with E85 the AEM EMS will allow ful controll of fuel and timing. This post explains in full detail. http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=47094.msg1004599 Some of the horsepower #`s the V8`s have been able to reach with E85 is amazing. RB_Shaggs
hey that time slip is from famosa i know that track all to well been there more times then i can count i remember seeing a video of your car back in the day on bakersfield street racings site.. Quote Link to comment
510six
I think this one was in Imports and Outlaws Famoso is an underated track, I have always found it to "hook" very well. You just have to watch out for the potholes on the return lanes. Quote Link to comment
