MicroMachinery
I just bought a wagon a few days ago, and the driver's door is rotten all along the bottom. It looks like the cancer has gotten the exterior skin of the door, but the interior door panel is still there.. still has SOME substance to it; possibly salvageable? Anyhow, I have a 620 parts truck that's about to go to the scrap yard, as well as a 280zx. My question is, has anybody used either of these types of cars for cutting the lower panel from the outer door skin in order to replace one in a 510? I've not had much experience in body work, but with this wagon, I think I'm gonna do a bit of learning. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
BJW's FiveTen's
Just a thought, but I believe the 4dr doors would be the correct shape and size and should be easier to come by. You could take the skins, or part of it and graft them onto your doors. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Yes, I have definitely thought about that. They use the same doors, so naturally that would be the easiest and most ideal solution. However, all the 4-doors I have around are not ones that I want to cannibalize. That's why I'd rather use the 620 or ZX sheet metal.. seeing as how those are of little value to me. Quote Link to comment
Hyphy
Depends on the area that you need to remove. If its just the outer skin then any section of metal should be fine. If you need a specific contour or edge, thats another story. I kept the donor bed for my project for this reason. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
It's the bottom edge of the door. Quote Link to comment
Hyphy
if you want to replace the edge, drill out any spot welds from your donor door skin section and do a patch swap. should be easy unless its the whole edge Quote Link to comment
