Milicent Bystander
Looking for a Z20 cylinder head, eight plug, preferably the type with the non-circular combustion chambers (maybe they are all like this, I dunno), Complete Z20/22 motor would be OK too. Thanks. Link to comment
datzenmike
Need more info. You have an '81... that should be a Z22 and any Z20 or Z22 head will work. If you have a Z20 from a Mileage Option '84-'86 then that's different. Z20 57cc round chamber head Z20 45cc small chamber head. Note intake and exhaust side quench areas . Link to comment
Milicent Bystander
It is not the original engine (which lasted over 400K I'm told). The block is stamped "Z20" and it has the smaller chamber head. Are there date codes on the head or block? Link to comment
datzenmike
The heads have casting numbers but I haven't kept track of them. Motors have numbers but again I have no idea what they mean. What's wrong with the head you have? The one you have has only 4 plugs! Can you post a picture of the combustion chamber side? Better yet if the head is off, are the pistons dished like this: If they are dished your replacement motor is most likely from an A10 car (late510) . Link to comment
Milicent Bystander
Oops, yeah, I mean an 8 plug head. My pistons have the same shallow dish with the little valve notches, though there is no carbon on them. I warped the head, and cracked it too, in between the valve seats on each cylinder. It was a good little engine, though perhaps a bit underpowered for a KC 4x4. It was pulling down just over 22 mpg highway. It has the 5 speed car transmission that came with the engine, so I do miss having the truck tranny's lower first gear. Link to comment
